Web Alert: New Guidance on LPG blending/ commingling from Intertanko
News & Insights 14 December 2016
Intertanko has released its Guide to the blending/commingling of LPG cargoes on board Gas Carriers.
Intertanko has released its ‘Guide to the blending/commingling of LPG cargoes on board Gas Carriers’. This publication has been produced to aid ship owners with LPG interests and to address the relative lack of external guidance on the issue of blending/commingling of LPG cargoes. This topic was complicated by the recent amendment to SOLAS which placed restrictions on cargo blending and these guidelines should help members conduct blending and remain in compliance with SOLAS Regulation, VI/5-2.
The guide contains sections relating to:
- SOLAS regulations pertaining to blending
- Reasons for blending
- Guidance on propane to butane blending
- The associated hazards and ways of blending
- Guidelines on blending
- Commercial implications
The guide is available for download by Intertanko members from their website.
We advise members who foresee themselves engaging in LPG blending /commingling or are currently undertaking such activities to use this valuable publication to guide their operations.
