News: Parana River – Argentinian President declares State of Hydrological Emergency

The Parana River in Argentina is at its lowest levels in the last 50 years. Because of the low waters affecting the Hydrological Basin formed by the Parana, Paraguay and Iguazú Rivers the President enacted Decree 482/2021 and declared a State of Hydrological Emergency on said area for 180 days.

The Decree is attached below in Spanish.

The National Water Institute (INA) has advised that the recent rain registered was very limited and with very short effect on the rise of the levels of the water in the Parana River. The flow of water of about 7,900 m3/s is well below the historical average for June in the last 25 years.

INA forecasted that the level of the water in the following months will be very similar to those observed in most of 2020, or even lower.

The club recommends members calling ports on the Parana River to exercise caution and gather pre-arrival information from local authorities on the maximum available depths and allowable drafts for transiting the river.

The club would like to thank our correspondent, PANDI LIQUIDORES SRL for this information.
