The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has recently circulated a spot commentary published by the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) on the spike in sea robbery and sea theft and attempted actions incidents in Singapore Straits and approaches.
The commentary aims to provide awareness of emerging areas of concern including the analytical insights into the incidents and the observed modus operandi of the perpetrators.
Members are reminded to contact the local authorities and the IFC immediately, when they sight suspicious activities and not confront the perpetrator when boarding has occurred.
The club echos IFC's recommendations which emphasize on the importance of maintaining a proper and vigilant lookout, adhering to ship security standard operating procedures, and the timely reporting of incidents to local authorities.
A copy of the spot commentary is attached for member's information.
The club thanks the SSA for sharing this information
