Web Alert: PSC Concentrated Inspection Campaigns for 2018

News & Insights 24 June 2018

The Black Sea MoU and the Indian Ocean MoU have confirmed running a similar CIC from 1 September to 30 November 2018 to check ships’ compliance with air pollution prevention requirements and to boost awareness of the 2020 sulphur cap.

Further to the Club’s previous web alert regarding launching of the Paris MOU & Tokyo MOU Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on MARPOL Annex VI, the Black Sea MoU and the Indian Ocean MoU have confirmed running a similar CIC from 1 September to 30 November 2018 to check ships’ compliance with air pollution prevention requirements and to boost awareness of the 2020 sulphur cap.

Meanwhile, the Viña del Mar MOU (member countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela) is running a CIC on auxiliary machinery from 1 June 2018 to 31 August 2018. The CIC aims to ensure compliance with SOLAS Chapter II-1, on the safety of auxiliary machinery, especially the working condition and maintenance of the auxiliary engines, auxiliary equipment and their related alarm systems. In addition, familiarity of the crew will be assessed. Members are recommended to refer to the attached press release and checklist to assist their shipboard team in preparing for the PSC inspection.

Further, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) has initiated a CIC for all US-flag vessels fitted with open lifeboats, from 2 May 2018 – 1 May 2019. The purpose of this CIC is to ensure that these critical lifesaving appliances are maintained in working order and ready for immediate use.

During this period, USCG Marine Inspectors will perform a more detailed inspection of open lifeboats and related launching appliances using the attached checklist as a guide in conjunction with regularly scheduled Coast Guard Inspections (exclusive of dry-dock).
