In May 2012 the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee amended regulations to SOLAS in relation to lifeboat release hook mechanisms. The amendments entered into force on 1 January 2013.

It is now a requirement that lifeboat on-load release mechanisms, not complying with the new International Life-Saving Appliances Code, are to be replaced no later than the first scheduled dry-docking of the ship after 1 July 2014 and in any event before 1 July 2019.

Following the tragic incident involving “THOMSON MAJESTY” earlier this year Members are reminded to ensure compliance with the amendments to SOLAS within the timeframe indicated.
