What you will be doing

We have an opportunity for a Claims Executive to join our Claims Team in Tokyo.  In this exciting role, you’ll be responsible for handling many different P&I claims, including those that are more difficult and complex, from notification to completion.

Your main duties will include:

  • Checking the legitimacy of claims against the P&I Rules and the member’s terms of entry.
  • Maintaining files, reports, Claims Summary Documents and Estimate Review (ESR) with accurate, detailed and timely information/documents.    
  • Acknowledging receipt and properly handling claims and enquiries, consulting with members throughout.
  • The opportunity to travel in Japan and abroad to develop relations with members and brokers.
  • Handling claims appropriately and cost-effectively.
  • Working closely with the Loss Prevention Department on claims, member reviews and as the condition of entered vessels and the performance of crew requires.
  • Involving the FD&D Department in a timely manner in relevant cases.  
  • Informing the Underwriting Department of any unusual risks detected.   
  • Taking responsibility for and engaging in additional projects and activities of the P&I department, including Sector and Expertise Groups, training, team development and member relationships.
  • Providing out-of-hours / weekend assistance as reasonably necessary.
Your profile

Essential Skills/qualifications/Experience

  • Degree (preferably in Law) or equivalent (eg Master Mariners Certificate)
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS office and adaptability.
  • Good interpersonal skills always appropriate to cultural diversity and with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexible with availability to be able to service needs of clients and geographical sector colleagues.

 

Desirable Skills/qualifications/Experience

 

  • Previous shipping law or industry experience.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Willing to undertake IG PANiQ exams or to read IG PANDiQ material, where the material is relevant to the role.
