A nationwide dock worker strike in Nigeria commenced on 3 July. Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) appealed to all dock workers to go on strike in support of a claim for unpaid wages from the stevedores employed by the International Oil Companies (IOC).

At about 8:45 a.m., the seaport workers softened their stance and allowed only private vehicles into the ports, barring all container trucks from entering into the ports."
