Further to the club’s update on quarantine measures against the Zika virus, the Chinese Quarantine Authority (CIQ) has clarified their requirement regarding mosquito eradication certificates for vessels coming from Zika affected regions.
According to CIQ, this certificate is only necessary for vessels calling directly from a Zika virus affected country to China. The notice doesn’t specify any time period in this respect.
The mosquito eradication certificate can be issued either by local authorities or by third party disinfection companies at Zika affected regions. It should include vessel details (vessel’s name, port of destination, cargo on board, time of loading etc.) and a description to the effect that 'The Certificate shall certify the subject vessel was disinfected against mosquito before departure'.
Members are advised that if their vessels are not able to obtain the mosquito eradication certificate from local authorities in Zika affected countries then they may have to arrange it through a local fumigation company; otherwise, CIQ will take appropriate measures upon vessel arrival at the Chinese port.
