News & Insights 4 August 2020

Written by

Beirut port is currently closed.

As reported by our correspondents and Lloyd's Agent at Beirut Port.

Following the explosions that occurred in a warehouse reportedly dedicated for IMGD cargoes, and in particular containing approximately 2,700MT of ammonium nitrate and fireworks, most if not all of the logistical infrastructure of Beirut port has been destroyed. The status of the 13 vessels alongside remains unknown. Severe damage is also reported to buildings outside the port within a radius of 5km.

Beirut port is currently closed and vessels will be diverted to Tripoli to discharge their cargo.

We are informed that our correspondent Maurice G Mouracade & Co, and Elias Marine remain safe and are working remotely. The port is currently off limits to correspondents due to the ongoing investigation and debris removal.
