SAFETY4SEA Conference & Awards
Athens, Greece, 03 October 2018
The SAFETY4SEA Conference & Award aims to foster excellence and share best practices across shipping. The event targets Technical, Safety, Operations & Marine departments of Ship Operators and other industry stakeholders.
Capt Yves Vandenborn, Director of Loss Prevention, is speaking at the event about The Human Element and Seafarer Resilience. This is an issue which The Standard Club’s loss prevention department has been researching and raising awareness about.
In 2010, The Standard Club participated in a joint venture to gather research and insight into human error, why such errors occur and how to avoid them in the future. This research, and the resulting book, was the first of its kind focusing solely on the maritime industry and provides clear guidance on how to mitigate the failures of the human element which are the cause of so many accidents. The success of the book led to a further initiative to produce the Human Element movie in cooperation with Walport, a leading distributor of safety instructional products.
In 2017, the club supported the new book 'Being Human in Safety-Critical Organisations'. It delves more deeply into why humans make errors despite their training, and what safeguards can be put in place to minimise the risks.
Yves’ talk will discuss these and other initiatives which The Standard Club has pioneered in order to minimize the inherent human risks on board ships.
Registration for the event is free, visit the event website for more information.
