Knowledge Centre P&I events

The club hosts a variety of training events and seminars for its members.

Member P&I training 2009

The club’s third member training week was held in London in June 2008.  It was a basic introduction to P&I and aimed at those people who are in the first two or three years of their shipping careers.

Participants were given presentations on the P&I market, underwriting, club rules, claims and safety and loss prevention.  There were also presentations and a workshop on a major casualty scenario from Reed Smith.

Member P&I training 2008

The club’s second member training week was held in London in June 2008.  The mix between presentations and workshops allowed participants to share their individual experiences and learn from others in the industry. The first day covered pollution, the second personal injury, the third major casualty response and the fourth offshore. The speakers were drawn from the managers, together with shipping industry experts and lawyers based in the UK and the US.

In conjunction with the third Standard Asia Offshore Forum held in Singapore in December 2008, the club hosted a training seminar on P&I matters. Topics covered included defence cover, personal injury, cargo, collision and pollution issues. There were also  presentations and a workshop on a major casualty scenario from Holman Fenwick Willan.

Member P&I training 2007

The club held its first training week for members in London in September 2007.  The content of the week's lectures and workshop was designed as an introduction to the world of P&I insurance for members' staff who were relatively new to the industry.  The programme gave an overview of all the different aspects of P&I: from an explanation of what is covered by the rules, to how new business is rated, what the reinsurance programme looks like and how different sorts of claims are handled.
