The club is able to provide legal advice and expenses cover to its members for disputes arising out of the operation of their ships, even if the underlying risk does not fall within the scope of P&I insurance.
The cover is provided for a wide range of risks, such as off-hire, speed and performance, ship yard and other contractual disputes. Defence claims are handled as far as possible in-house by legally qualified claims executives. When it becomes necessary to instruct external lawyers the club has strong links with leading maritime advocates throughout the world.
Cover is provided for the costs of investigating a member’s legal position and for fighting or defending meritorious cases where there is a reasonable chance of sustaining the member’s position, in the discretion of the club.
