Around a third of the ships entered with the club are tankers; they include oil, chemical, product, LNG and LPG tankers. Of particular interest to tanker operators is the pollution cover provided by the club. The club covers liabilities caused by the discharge or escape of any substance from the ship, together with the costs of any clean-up. So far as oil pollution is concerned, the cover is limited (for owners) to US$1 billion. The relevant conventions are Marpol and the CLC/Fund Conventions. The Club can provide Blue Cards in respect of members’ liabilities for pollution under the CLC Convention.
The club can also provide additional covers for indemnities required at certain terminals, and for GA exposures, as well as other liabilities.
